The challenge

Challenged with tedious wayleaves and lengthy fibre internet connection periods for occupiers, central London landlord Hondo Enterprises sought a partner who could deliver a quick, frictionless experience for their tenants in 12-13 Wells Mews.

They wanted a provider capable of managing the entire connected building process, from the installation of the external fibre during the refurbishment of the building, to proactively assisting new occupiers with their connectivity needs when moving in. It was critical for Hondo that tenant uptake of the services was high, to support the investment.

After assessing a number of providers, Tom Richardson, Head of Asset Management at Hondo Enterprises, found Backbone’s all-compassing approach unmatched.

The solution: plug-and-play fibre internet

“No other provider we spoke to could manage the process as thoroughly as Backbone. Other bidders offered fragmented versions of their service, but Backbone‘s approach was by far the most holistic of any connectivity provider”

Backbone designed and delivered a plug-and-play fibre internet solution which made 12-13 Wells Mews one of the first multi-tenant 10-Gigabit-enabled buildings in the West End of London. The solution involved diverse fibre carrier entry via Colt and Openreach, coupled with robust Wi-Fi provision for the ground floor lobby guests and building management.

Backbone coordinated with the contractors undertaking the refurbishment and successfully installed the plug-and-play solution on time to coincide with the practical completion of the refurbishment – a big win for Hondo.

Backbone helped Hondo save significant time and effort by overseeing the installation, managing carriers, and ensuring all tenants were connected quickly.  This was a stark contrast to Hondo’s previous experiences working with other providers, who were slow and unresponsive.

The results: 100% uptake

Having Backbone’s infrastructure in 12-13 Wells Mews gave Hondo peace of mind, knowing that their tenants had reliable services. Being able to provide incoming tenants with connectivity options, assurance on internet speeds, and connection timescales before they move in has helped 12-13 Wells Mews stand out in a crowded market.

All tenants had immediate high-speed internet from day one, and the new infrastructure achieved 100% tenant uptake and connection (exceeding 90% target). Backbone’s ability to manage the connected building process without a hitch confirmed Hondo’s decision.

“Their ability to deliver on their promises – we were assured of at least 90% tenant uptake and Backbone achieved 100%! We were promised a smooth and punctual project installation which it was exactly that!”
